K9 Unit

Law enforcement K9 units are an integral part of response.

They create a safer environment because of the unique skills they bring to often critical incidents. The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office uses several types of police dogs for special circumstances.

Explosives Detection K9

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit helps track missing persons, apprehend suspects, find explosives and locate evidence. They allow patrol officers to work more safely and efficiently and perform functions that human officers simply cannot do.

For example, officers searching a building without the benefit of a K9 team will take much longer to perform the search and will be exposed to greater risk. Performing a building search with a K9 team will enable to the search to be performed in much less time, increasing efficiency and decreasing risk to officers.

Search And Rescue Dogs

The K9 teams have tracked and found missing persons, captured dangerous suspects, assisted in explosives searches in bomb threats and been responsible for the removal of a significant amount of illegal drugs and weapons from the community.
