Barbara Strang

Barbara Strang was elected commissioner in 2020. She works as a corporate fraud investigator for a large financial banking firm and serves as a Guardian ad Litem for Judicial District 19 A.

She brings with her more than 15 years of experience in criminal justice.

Strang earned bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and political science from the University of NC at Charlotte and a Juris Doctorate from Charlotte School of Law. As a student, she participated in the National Negotiations Competition at William and Mary Law School and served as a NC Student Legislature Delegate.

She has served Cabarrus through leadership roles with the Winecoff Neighborhood Association, National Night Out, Project SAFE Program and the Jimmy Murphey Christmas Program. She actively supported local youth as a member of the PTO/PTA for Winecoff Elementary and Northwest Cabarrus Middle, and as assistant scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 221.

Strang and her husband, William, reside in Concord. They have two adult children, Stephen (Concord) and Alexis (Washington, DC), both of whom are graduates of Northwest Cabarrus High. Stephen is an Eagle Scout and former Boy Scout with Troop 221 out of Calvary Lutheran Church in Concord.

Strang’s top priority is to be a voice for all citizens of Cabarrus County. She plans to listen to and work with residents to find solutions-based approaches to community issues.
