Fair Housing

A component of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, the Fair Housing Act passed just one week after the assassination of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legislators saw it as a way to "reunite our country and get back on a solid track." In this 2018 video (below) marking the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, housing leaders share the significance of the landmark legislation that called on equality in housing for "all human beings who live in this country."

Fair Housing

Cabarrus County, through its Community Development Program, has assured the NC Department of Commerce that the County will take action in the form of educational programs to further Fair Housing opportunities for its residents. The County is disseminating this information provided in Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 as amended by the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974.

In Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 (the Fair Housing Law), Congress declared a national policy of providing Fair Housing throughout the US. This law makes discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin illegal in connection with the sale or rental of most housing and any vacant land offered for residential construction or use.
