Property Tax Payment

Motor Vehicle Bills—Tax And Tag Combined

You can no longer pay through the local tax collections office. Motor vehicle taxes and tags/registration are paid at your local tag office or you can avoid long lines and pay online. After completing a successful inspection, login to the DMV portal and have your NCDL number, last four of your Social Security number and birth date to complete registration.

However; you can dispute situs and valuation at your local Assessor's Office by calling 704-920-2166, choose option 2 at the prompt.

Real Estate And Personal Property Tax:

Cabarrus County accepts online payment of Real Estate property tax and personal property tax by credit card (Visa, Master, Discover and American Express) or electronic check.

Payments are processed through an outside vendor, which charges a convenience fee. This convenience fee* is passed on to taxpayers who pay their real estate property taxes online. Cabarrus County does not receive any part of this fee, nor is it part of your tax.

We continue to accept tax payments via mail or in person at the County Governmental Center (65 Church Street, SE, Concord). For your convenience, a payment drop box is located at the interior entrance to the Tax Collections Office. Include the account number or parcel number with payment.

Please allow 24 hours for posting payment to your account.

Fees

Cabarrus County contracts with PayIt to provide taxpayers the ability to make online payments at no cost to the County. These fees cover the transaction costs associated with processing payments, which all merchants are required to pay and will appear as a separate line on your credit card statement showing PayIt as the payee.

myCabCo customer fees include:

  • $2.00 fee per transaction, but multiple bills can be paid using the shopping cart with only one transaction fee
  • 1.85% credit card fee
  • $1.25 ACH electronic check fee

After you select your preferred payment method and enter your real estate tax information, the system will display the amount of the fee. At this point, you have the option to back out of the transaction, if you choose.

Because the credit card fees are calculated based on the amount of the transaction, it is cost prohibitive for Cabarrus County to absorb the cost of these fees for residential and commercial real estate property taxes. However, Cabarrus County does absorb the cost of credit card transaction fees for payment of motor vehicle taxes, since the cost to the County is much lower. Cabarrus County also absorbs the cost of all other credit card services.
