Veterans who have disabilities, medical conditions or injuries incurred or aggravated during active military service, no matter when or where they served, may be eligible to receive tax-free monthly benefits.
Veterans’ Surviving Spouses And Dependents Compensation Eligibility
Dependency and Indemnity Compensation is a benefit awarded to surviving spouses and children of veterans whose death is related to their active duty service or a result of the veteran's service connected disability, and can be granted if the veteran was rated 100% service-connected for ten or more years at the time of death and dies from non-service-connected causes other than willful misconduct. The surviving parent(s) may be eligible for an income-based benefit called Parents' Dependency and Indemnity Compensation.
Requirements For Application
- Veterans Affairs award letter showing service-connected conditions
- Copy of veteran's death and marriage certificates
- Private treatment records or addresses of treating doctors and treatment dates
