Cabarrus County assess two types of properties, Personal and Real.
Personal Property
Personal Property includes all property, both tangible and intangible, that is not permanently affixed to land. It’s valued for taxation every year based on its market value on January 1. The most common form is Business Personal Property. Personal Properties are reported by the owner on a listing form and depreciate with trending schedules.
Real Property
Real Property (real estate) is revalued in Cabarrus County every four years. Through the revaluation process, appraisers follow a Schedule of Values to determine value, which is set on January 1 of the revaluation year. Revaluation is important because it uses data to redistribute and equalize tax burden.
Owners are required to list improvements to Real Property and new Personal Property.
